Snow Cave

My caveToday we went outside in the snow.  I built a snow fort, more like a snow cave, with a little bit of help from the girls.  Adrian helped a little bit too. I made it because when we shovel out the driveway, we put the snow on the side by the Japanese Maple Tree.  Every year we use this snow as a sledding hill or a snow cave.  This year Andrea got the shovel out and started shoveling part of it out.  When I came out, she got tired of doing what she was doing, so I asked if she would pack it around.  Audrey came out and wanted to help.  We kept on trading jobs.  When the girls got tired of doing it, I kept working.

When I finished it, everybody tried it out.  I spent the most time in it.

Momma was not able to get the pictures with Adrian and Andrea in it though :(  Maybe later if it does not collapse.  Hopefully it does not collapse!

Camp Update

My campsiteMy tentI went to Webelos camp.  I got to do lots of fun things like archery, BB’s, swimming, knot tying, skits and lots more!  We even had a water balloon battle.  We had a lot of fun.

Getting ready to fightWe were one of the two teams that did not touch the flag Hit!(that meant that we did not really win).  The reason that we did not touch the flag was because we ran out of water balloons (“amo”).  We still had most of the kids left by the time we ran out of amo.  If I was still, I would have just gone for the flag, but I got hit (killed).

I learned how to tie a horse to a stake or a post.  I took fishing lessons.  The fish I caught “kicked” the hook on to Daddy’s finger ):  he he he.  It hurt Daddy but it was funny.  Performing our new songOne of the people at the fishing practice caught the same fish over and over and over.  I learned a few more songs to annoy my momma.  Want me to sing them to you?

Mess hallMy favorite thing was learning the songs and getting beads.  I earned them by going to activities and by being a waiter for lunch.

One of the songs we learned was “Mary had a little lamb, little lamb, little lamb, Mary had a little lamb with tators and some pie!”  (Sung to the tune of Mary had a little lamb).

Thank you for praying that there were not too many mosquito bites.  It only rained three times one day and they were short rain.  It was fun!

McKinley’s New Job

McKinley has  pupatated !!!  !!!!!! !!!!!! !!!!!! !!!!!! !!!!!! !!!!!! !!!!!! !!!!!! !!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!

Hanging in a “J” shapeYesterday, he started spinning a “web”.  Adrian says “a spider web”.  The web lets him hang up high.  Then he hung upside down and turned into a “J” shape. “Dancing” Momma noticed McKinley was in a “J” at 10:00 last night.

This morning, he looked like he was “nodding off to Half finishedsleep”.  Then it looked like he was biting one of his legs and puulllinggg. Soon he stopped doing that and was just puullinggg.

Then it looked like his head slit open and his brain was green.  Then it looked like he was getting out of a stripped sleeping bag.  It looked like he was pushing the sleeping bag off toward his feet. Then he was all green.

So in about 11 days –around the 10th–(Miss Ginger’s Birthday)– he should hatch into a butterfly! McKinley’s Chrysalis We will know when he will hatch because his chrysalis will turn clear and then he starts shaking!

Can you guess why we named him McKinley?

Monarch Egg Nursery Started

Looking for eggsWe found between 8-10 Monarch eggs down the road.  We are going to raise them.  We are trying to keep them all the same age this year.

Egg on Milkweed

We are also going to put sand on the bottom of their cages when they get bigger.  We only have to pour out the sand and put in clean sand to clean their cages.

Because we got them early, we can do twice as many (Momma says maybe) and let them mate.  Then they can lay eggs.  This set will last only a couple of weeks before dying so they have to lay their eggs quickly.  Maybe we can watch the babies grow.  🙂

Monarch Nursery

P.S.  Do you have any ideas on how to raise Luna Moths?   That would be fun too.   Momma said we could if we learn how and where to get the eggs or caterpillars and food.
