Two Times Passed in Secret!

Last year, Momma and I decided to try to get a higher ham license then Grandpa. He only has an Advanced, so we secretly took the class for General in July 2010. I PASSED and kept it a secret for almost a year 🙂 !!!!!

Since there is not a class for Extra, we practiced at home. I took the test a week ago and PASSED again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, for Grandpa’s birthday, we made a shirt to tell him. He was surprised because we did it all in secret.

Happy birthday to you

Happy birthday to you

Happy birthday dear Grandpa

Happy birthday to you.

I hope that you can come see me play!

New Critters

A friend from church gave us a praying mantis egg case. We hope to get some good pictures of them hatching.

We want to learn more about them so we have some questions;

  1. When do adult Praying Mantises lay their eggs ?
  2. Where do they lay the eggs? And how can we find some more?
  3. When do the babies hatch?
  4. What do the babies eat? Can we raise them?
if you can read this you are way too close

Adrian

Today is Adrian’s birthday, he is five!

Mommy and Daddy keep saying, “it is your third birthday“. Adrian says, “I am turning four…no five”. 🙂

Five Minutes of Fame

That is one big camera!

We will be on TV soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Cindi Clawson (the weekend weather person) from WNDU, came over to interview us on how to make maple syrup. She had called the Parks department and two other people were unavailable. Miss Krista knew we made maple syrup and called us to see if we would do the interview. Daddy and Mommy said yes, we could!

The interview started with Mommy talking about why we make maple syrup. I talked about how we make syrup. Mrs Clawson put a lapel mike on me and asked me questions and I answered them. When we were done, she said I did a good job. I got to do the talking because I am the oldest of the kids and most of the syrup is our responsibility. The girls each got to do something in the video, Adrian was not interested! Daddy made pancakes for after and talked about how to finish it up.

The segment is not all us because Mrs Clawson had done a BIG sugar camp earlier.  When the segment is on I’ll tell you because Mrs. Clawson did not know. She commented to have someone tape the segment for us to keep.

Was Your Breakfast as Good as Mine?

This morning we made German apple pancakes. They were GOOD!!!!!!!!! Here is the recipe if you are interested.

German Pancakes with Apples

4 large egg
1 Cup milk
1 Cup flour
3 Tablespoons butter, unsalted
2 peeled and cored apples, I used Yellow Delicious
1 Teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 Dash nutmeg
1/3 Cup brown sugar

Thinly slice apples.
In large bowl whisk together beaten eggs, milk, flour, vanilla just until blended. Set aside to rest about 20 minutes.
Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Place rack in the middle of oven.
In an oven proof 12 inch skillet, melt 2 tablespoons butter over high heat. Add apples and spices and cook until apples are soft and slightly golden.
Add brown sugar and stir until apples caramelize and are very soft. Add remaining butter and stir.
Very quickly pour bater over apples. Place skillet in oven carefully and bake until pancake is golden brown and puffed. (About 15 minutes)
Serve immediately. Sprinkle with powdered sugar or drizzle with maple syrup if you want.

Don’t you wish your mom would let you cook for school too?

P.S. Maple Sap Newsflash! We filled the 5 gallon container up today. We are working on filling a milk jug now. (Momma said the tree filled it up, not us 🙂 )
