sap

One of our friends had 30 gallons more maple sap then he needed so he gave it to us. It would take us about 5 days to collect that much on a good week. It takes  40 gallons of sap to make 1 gallon of syrup.

We are planing to make sugar with it, and I don’t know how much sugar 30 gallons of sap would make.  But it will be a good start for what we need this year.

Thank you Mr. Courtney!

Sign of Spring

Are you enjoying the slushly spring weather?  Today  we went out to look for signs of spring. Some of our gardens are turning green!  There are also buckets by our maple trees. (we have made 15½ cups of syrup already) We also noticed that there is not much snow on the ground….

Soccer

… And with the snow out of the way, it is time to get out cleats, shin guards and soccer balls!

Sledding

Mark sleddingWe got 6 1/2 inches of snow last night. I helped shovel the neighbors driveway. We tried to do it quietly, but she caught us.

Then, we went sledding. It was fun!  The snow was very deep, so it was hard coming up the hill.

I was doing a very “good job” sledding today, I probably traveled more with the sled not under me than anyone else did. The only times I remember getting to the bottom of the hill was when I went down with someone else 🙂

We enjoyed sledding, but we had to leave when the hill got too busy with wild “big kids”.  Momma had checked and saw that schools had a two hour delay, but we learned later that schools had been canceled for the day so everyone went sledding!

Sledding

This is the big hill at Bonnyville Mill
Here we GO!

We went sledding today!

Momma wanted to get some pictures of Bonnyville mill during winter, so we decided to go sledding too. I asked Mommy to go sledding with me while Audrey got pictures. The second time we went down we spun around and Mom YELLED!

Megan decided it was time to go home before I was ready 🙁

Oh Deer, John is Dead!

Oh deer John is dead! When the kids went to Science Sleuths this month, Momma, Megan and I went for a walk. We decided to go some place we have never gone to before. It had a couple of islands, a bunch of neat trees and quite a few shells. We were walking along the trail and Momma saw a bunch of ducks that flew away.  As they were taking off, I saw some ribs in a patch of ice on the river.  I went along past a tree and saw an antler, then I called back to tell Momma what I found.

I got a picture of it because Momma could not see it very well from where she was.  I practiced editing it to make it look better.  It would have been a little better if there was a skull–though I don’t think I could have taken it from the park–or a lot better if the buck had still been alive 🙂
