Phil Says Spring is Right Around the Corner!
Phil’s official forecast as read 2/2/07 at 7:28 a.m. at Gobbler’s Knob (Punxsutawny, Pennsylvania):
On this Groundhog Day we think of one thing.
Will we have winter or will we have spring? On Gobbler’s Knob I see no shadow today.
I predict that early spring is on the way.
Sometimes it’s right, and sometimes he’s wrong. “Whistle whistle whistle” I think it’s Groundhogs day today.
Groundhog Gets a Say is a very good book. It gives you a good “behind the scenes” of groundhogs. I learned that they are also called Whistle pigs because they whistle. Their burrows have flood humps. If it rains very hard, it won’t get flooded. I would recommend this book, especially for school enjoyment and research.
Do you like it when the groundhog sees his shadow, or not?
