The (Suposed) first Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is not about the turkey, food or a day off (adults) 8)

but (drum roll)

The pilgrims were religious. They believed in Jesus Christ and the Bible the king told them how they had to warship .

They moved to Holland because they could worship the way they chose. Some of the things their children were learning were bad. The pilgrims took two ships, the Mayflower and the Speedwell, and went to the New World (as it was called).

The Speedwell developed a leak and returned with the Mayflower to Holland. The winds and waves grew violent and a lot of people grew sea sick. (bleach) Finally they solded Speedwell. They were going to use the Mayflower to go to the New World, so their was not enough room for everybody.

Some of them stayed behind, but the people who did go all went on the Mayflower. There was a total of 102 pilgrims plus sailors and animals for farms.

One day the Pilgrims landed at Cape Cod. After eight weeks of traveling, they got use to walking on the ship. When they got on land, it felt ground was still moving, they walked funny.

Some men went exploring, women washed clothes, the kids probably raced and played hard on the beach. Other men stood guard. They had metal sticks and armor and their guns where held up by the sticks because they were VERY heavy.

They made their houses, but not very well. They did not have very good crops, it was too late in the year, and they did not have enough food.

Tisquantum came to help them. He knew English because he was captured to be a slave in Europe but some monks helped him get back home. He went back home but his tribe had all died out. He went to a nearby tribe.

He helped the pilgrims build homes and find and grow food.

More than half of the pilgrims died that first year. Then the next year, they had a very good harvest. They had a party and during that party the Indians brought out something new, popcorn (maybe popcorn balls!) Mmm mmm!

They had the supposedly first Thanksgiving. They were praising God (and thanking the Indians for their help and friendship) for their good harvest.

The first Thanksgiving was all the way back in the Bible. I don’t know when. Some examples are bringing back the Ark of the Covenant and everyone rejoiced greatly, giving thanks to God. King David even danced for joy!

Even more way back, Noah thanked God for bringing him and his family and all the animals safely though the flood.

So, here we are enjoying our Happy Thanksgiving!

I am thankful for, the biggest ones are the church and the Bible, and my house, and my coat, and Maryam, toys, the my sisters, Mommy, Daddy and Adrian. Grandma, Grandpa, Oma and Opa and all the uncles and Aunts. My friends.
